Just 7.1 Percent Of All Android Devices Run On Android 4.0

We’ve all heard about the crazy fragmentation when it comes to the Android ecosystem. Thousandsof different devices and different versions of the Android OS. Every now and then, Google updates the Android OS distribution statistics to see how well the latest version of the OS is doing.

Latest statistics show that Android 4.0 is slowly climbing up, but has only managed to penetrate 7.1 percent of all the devices out there. Still, it’s better than before, double the numbers from the last time actually. However, a lot of those devices are still stuck up on Android 2.3.3 and Android 2.2. That’s because the hardware isn’t good enough to run the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. This is why fragmentation is bad folks! These statistics are based on the number of devices that visit the Google Play Store, so they could be slightly inaccurate. From the pie chart, it looks like Android 2.3 has almost seized to exist, which is a good thing. What’s shocking is that the portion of people using Android 2.2 is more than twice in size as that of Android 4.0!

Let’s hope that in a few years, all Android devices will run on the same OS version!
